When should I arrive?
To make the most of your trip to West Texas, we recommend traveling and arriving on Thursday, or early Friday at the latest. Check out the Wedding Weekend page for more details. In addition to the wedding and reception itself on Saturday, we hope you'll join us for as much as you can!
Please keep in mind that on Mondays and Tuesdays most of the town is shut down and are not the best times for a visit.
Are kids welcome?
No, we love kids but aren't ready for them. We want the wedding weekend to be your weekend off!!
What should I wear to the wedding?
Dress comfortably, the ceremony and reception will both be outside. We've come up with some fun costume themes for you to partake in so pls check out the Dress Code page for exact details. It will be warm during the day and the temperature will drop after sunset, so it's best to bring an extra layer too. The wedding will take place outdoors where the ground is a mix of dirt and gravel, so ladies (and gentlemen so inclined) should leave the high heels at home and opt for wedges or boots instead. Closed toed shoes are preferable.
What's the weather like in September?
September weather in Marfa varies dramatically. Daytime temperatures will be in the mid to high 80's; at night temperatures will drop to the high 50's. It is also monsoon season. People do not expect rain out here, but it is highly likely it will rain at some point so please pack a raincoat if you do not want to get drizzled on. Remember this is the high desert so be prepared with sun screen, a hat and stay hydrated. The key is layering so bring them!
What should I pack?
Everything you think you'll need! By now you've figured out that Marfa is pretty far away from everything (but that's the appeal right!?), so take an extra look over what you've packed before you head out. In addition to what you'll need for the wedding day, pack some snacks for the road, an extra layer in case it gets cold at night and cash since there are only 2 ATMS in town and none are chain banks. If you're joining us for a night soak at El Cosmico on Thurs night, don't forget a swimsuit and towel, too. There are also many opportunities to swim at other hotels too. Don't forget to bring a hat and sunscreen!
What else should I know?
It's the high desert, about a mile above sea level, and the altitude and dryness can be a bit rough on newcomers. Stay hydrated especially if you're going to be drinking alcohol.
Cell service can be spotty, so embrace it.
We recommend booking your hotel / lodging as soon as possible. Hotels in Marfa often sell out.
